Jack Ladder
Jack Ladder (b.1983) is the alias of Tim Rogers, a songwriter, musician and artist from Sydney, Australia. His music is characterised by his baritone voice and poignant observations on love and death. His songs often feature a black humour and deeply personal revelations.
In the last 5 years he has released two albums "Not Worth Waiting For" (Spunk 2006) and "Love is Gone" (Spunk 2008). An alternative version of songs from Love Is Gone "Counterfeits" was self released in 2009. Love is Gone was short listed for the Australian Music Prize and won the Red Bull Music Award. It was also selected Album of the Year by Who Weekly magazine. His live shows are a constant reinvention, involving improvisation and deconstruction of his own material. Early shows were strictly acoustic featuring cello and upright bass. This was followed by a long period of electric trio and full band shows (see Counterfeits 2009). He is currently performing with vintage drum machines, delays and the guitar sonics of Kirin J Callinan (Mercy Arms). His live band regularly features Laurence Pike (Pivot, PVT, Triosk) on drums. Though evolving and experimental his performances are always passionate. Ladder has toured and opened for artists as diverse as John Cale, Wolfmother, Feist, Bill Callahan and Okkervill River for whom he contributed to The Stand Ins project. He features on the live Bill Callahan record "Rough Travel For A Rare Thing" (Drag City 2010) playing bass guitar. He has appeared on Fox breakfast show. "Good Day New York" performing You Won't Be Forgotten (When You Leave) (Fox 2008) and Australian cult music trivia show "Rockwiz" performing The Barber's Son (SBS 2009). His song Two Clocks appears in the season finale of australian crime drama Underbelly (Channel 9 2009). In 2009 he toured Australia nationally performing at the Splendour in the Grass festival in Byron Bay. In 2010 he appeared at the Golden Plains Supernatural Amphitheater in Meredith Victoria and Austin's annual SXSW music festival in Texas. Ladder creates his own artwork and has created cover images for Dappled Cities "Zounds" (Dangerbird 2009), The Scare "Oozevoodoo" (EMI 2009) and PVT "Church With No Magic" (Warp 2010). He was invited to redesign the Spunk records logo in 2009 and contributed art for the "Spunk Singles Club" (Spunk 2009). Jack Ladder is currently dividing his time between Sydney and Los Angeles where he dreams of making the big time. |
